Abby Burns (Hagerstown, Md./Washington County Tech) won the IHSA Zone IV, Region I
Lisa Mitchell Sportsmanship Award at Regionals this weekend at Meadowbrook Stables.
This award named in honor of former Hood Coach and Librarian
Lisa Mitchell who passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2013. It is awarded to a rider who demonstrates a degree of excellence and integrity by supporting their fellow competitors and displaying fairness and ethical behavior both in and out of the ring.
Burns has been an integral member of the Hood College Equestrian team for the last four years helping to grow the program, provide support to her fellow athletes both on her team and with her fellow competitors and has displayed good horsemanship at the barn.
Burns started out on the team as a Walk/Trot rider and after being a two-time Regional Qualifier and Zone Qualifier has ended her collegiate career in Limit Flat and Fences.
