YORK, Pa. – The squad struck first against conference foe York of Pennsylvania in the second inning but a five spot in the bottom half and the big swings led to a defeat 12-5 on Friday afternoon in game one on the road.
In the Batter's Box
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) notched three hits on the day.
Jack Patterson (Boyds, Md./Northwest) had big swings of a double and triple.
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) cashed an RBI and scored.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) pitched four innings allowing eight runs on nine hits and sat three batters down.
From the Bullpen
Tim Rio (Manassas, Va./Unity Reed) pitch three innings allowing four runs on five hits.
Conner Decker (York, Pa./Red Lion) tossed a hitless eighth inning.
How it Happened
Robbins served a ball up the middle to lead off the second before Patterson's first big swing landed in left for two bases and two runners on and one out.
A sacrifice to the left side by Ludington forced the Spartans' pitcher to field and flip home to try to cut Robbins at the plate and was unsuccessful leading to the 1-0 Blazer lead.
Another sacrifice executed perfectly by
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) cashed in baserunner No. 2 and doubled the lead.
A booted ball by Hood would stat the big inning for the Spartans, with the next three batters reaching first safely to cut the deficit to 2-1. Two more runs would score station-to-station with a ball lifted to right for out number one and another single. York would squeeze out two more runs between the second error of the game for the Blazers and a runner going into no man's land between second and first base to score the final runner from third and in return be tagged out at second.
The hosts would tack on two more before Hood would threaten again. In the top of the fifth, Gannon would single and Haines would crank a double for another two-on scenario.
Matthew Stout's (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) tough battle at the plate did not go unrewarded, his base knock scored a pair.
Another three in the seventh would put York in the driver's seat and take game one of the series.
For the Opponent
York's Prenderga busy day included three hits, three RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Notes
Hood falls to 6-16, 2-5 in MACC play this season.
York Pa. improves to 10-10, but 6-1 in conference play.
