How it Happened  Â
Â
Katy Przybocki (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and
Julia Gregory (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) combined to give Hood an early 2-1 lead. Meredith College responded with goals of their own, only for
Avery Stanley (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) to race down the field and score again for the Blazers. The Avenging Angels' defense stepped up and prevented Hood's offense from getting anything else going. Meredith closed the quarter with a scoring run to go up 7-3.
Â
Meredith opened the quarter with two goals, after turnovers by the Blazers. Burnette was able to get herself free and score two consecutive goals to answer for Hood; Gregory got the assist on the second. The Avenging Angels adjusted, closed the quarter out with another scoring run, and gave themselves an 11-5 lead halfway through the action.
Â
The second half played out a little differently. Turnovers for Hood prevented them from being able to cut the deficit. It was a different story for the Avenging Angels, as they were able to score five goals in the quarter. Hood trailed 16-5, with only the final frame remaining.
Â
Draw control wins were crucial in the fourth quarter. Meredith was able to win four-straight, then turn each of them into points on the board. The Blazers showed flashes and looked like they could come back, at times. However, Meredith controlled the game from the beginning, and it resulted in a 22-5 victory for the Avenging Angels.
