MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Hood College Women's lacrosse team lost 16-2 to the Messiah Falcons in Saturday afternoon's conference opener.

How it Happened
Messiah got on the board immediately with a goal from Hayley Lettinga, in the first minute of the game. Hood wasn't able to get any offense going and the Falcons capitalized on turnovers. Messiah scored another goal as the first quarter wound down to hold a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.
The second quarter played out in a similar fashion, as Messiah continued to cushion their lead. Good shot selection and defense led to the Falcons carrying a 9-0 lead into halftime.
The Blazers appeared to have settled in when
Abby Burnette (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) started of the the second half with a nice goal that followed a head-s up play from
Avery Stanley (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) to scoop a groundball. The Falcons answered, but so did Burnette. She scored another goal slowly chip away at the Falcons' league. At the end of the third quarter, Hood trailed 13-2.
Each team's offensive output slowed down in the final quarter and Messiah was able to build their lead to 16-2, where it stayed. Hood showed flashes but ended up falling short in their first conference game and losing to the Falcons.
Analysis
Messiah outshot Hood 37-11.
The Falcons won 16 draw controls, and the Blazers won six.

Jordan Lewicki and Hannah Gawne each scored four goals.
Madison Dean led all players with five points.
