READING, Pa. – The squad fought in game one to hold on to an early lead but were walked off in the late innings only to have the momentum shift in favor of Albright as the team drops both ends of the doubleheader 4-3 and 14-4 on Sunday afternoon to close conference play.
On the Mound
Mason Sawyers (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) pitched five innings to start game one allowing three earned runs on six hits while sitting down two via the K.
In the Batter's Box
Jonathan Tyndall (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) went 3-for-4 in game two.
Rhett Robbins (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) reached base twice via walk in game one.
Ty Broughton (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) scored and reached base twice in game one.
Albright 4, Hood 3
After some hard contact to start the game resulted in an out, Hood drew five free passes to first in succession to score two runs out the gate. A pitching change for the Lions put a new tempo and retired the threat.
The bottom half had a pair of Albright singles to earn a run back. Two men would be left stranded after Sawyers would get out of the jam. The bases would remain quiet for the following innings with Sawyers pitching to contact.
An infield single to start the bottom of the fifth would start trouble. The Lions would move the runner but would be in threat of stranding the runner now with two outs. The next two batters would trade places via extra base hit to score two to take the lead.
Blaine Smith (Hume, Va./Fauquier) would reach via a booted ball and be moved to third before
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) would have another ball hit hard result in an out but score the runner from third to tie the game up yet again.
The bottom of the seventh would be Albright playing spoiler as their leadoff Gilmer would reach aboard and steal second and take his wheels around the bases for the walkoff off of a single in the gap by his fellow teammate.
Albright 14, Hood 4
Game two reads as it was played, an error in the field to start the inning opened the floodgates for hits and after five hits, five runs score for Albright in the first.
With two outs and a runner on third, Albright would test Hood to hold off the scoring. A walk would put runners on the corners and Albright's Gorla would clear them with a homer to throw up an 8-0 spot by two innings of play.
The highlight inning for the Blazers is the four-run fourth inning, starting with a one-out walk by Smith. The trio of Tyndall,
James Gruenfelder (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermulen) and
Easton Kite (Catharpin, Va./Battlefield) would keep the line moving with base knocks and take two back. Two productive at bats for
Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) and Haines would score two more and give the squad some life to feed on.
