FREDERICK, Md. – The women's soccer team welcomed Gettysburg with new faces in the lineup and a new rhythm of play but fell 2-1 on Friday afternoon. After surrendering two goals in the first half, the Blazers cut the lead in half and kept Gettysburg out of goal.
Inside the Box Score
Ashley Stine (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) made eight saves on the day in her collegiate debut.
Maddy Ereso (Richmond, Va./Glen Allen) scored the sole Blazers goal, the first of her career.
Ryley Backer (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) in her first match with the Blazers put up a shot on goal.
How it Happened
Stine showed her aggressiveness in goal with her willingness to take contact early and even outside the box.
The stalemate broke when a kick from the home keeper rolled in the center of the field and within four strides an intercepted pass was turned into a lofted goal over the defense.
A short feed from 17 to 8 gave her opportunity for a double move at the edge of the box to skip a hot one-hopper in goal for the 2-0.
The Blazers became more comfortable on the offensive end in the second half keeping pressure in the box and the Bullets defense on alert.
The defensive play of Katie Grow and
McKenna Bishop (Johnson City, Tenn./Mount Hebron (Md.)) showed fruit and the Blazers put together a more established second half.
With less than 10 minutes to go,
Jen Vasquez (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was smothered by multiple Bullet defenders but kept her legs churning long enough to create an opening for Ereso and her strike redirected off a defender and into the opposite side of the net for the first goal of the 2025 season for the Blazers.
