FREDERICK, Md. –
Jen Vasquez (Westminster, Md./Westminster) nabs possession twice from a defender and scores both times as the women's soccer team takes down Goucher on the team's Pride Night 2-0 at Thomas Athletic Field on Tuesday night for the season's first win.
Inside the Box Score
Jen Vasquez (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scores career goal No. 1 and 2 and leads the Blazers in scoring.
Ashley Stine (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) made one save on the day and earns her first career while pitching the shutout.
Katy Grow (Sykesville, Md./Century) put up five shots on the evening.
How it Happened
Dani Farias (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) showed her speed as she cut through three defenders to take a long shot that struck the crossbar and took a bounce towards Vasquez but was save by Goucher keeper.
Heading into the final 15 minutes of the half,
Rachael Low (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) pushed the ball up the field with a big kick from midfield at the sideline towards the middle and top of the box. That's when Vasquez pickpocketed a Gopher defender and only had one defender to beat. On the run, Vasquez punched her shot towards the right side and in.
Vasquez on the pursuit again, this time a Goucher defender whiffed on a clearing attempt and as she tried to gather, Vasquez fielded the slow-moving ball and on replay punched it passed the goalie.
Minutes later with some meticulous dribbling, a Goucher defender found themself at the post of the Blazers goal and shot across and just wide defended by Stine.
Farias is one of many who played strong in the attacking zone creating many opportunities for the Blazers in part of a strong offensive effort. The 18 shots on the night is highest of the season.
Notes
The Gophers only put up five shots on the evening.
The Blazers 18 shots tonight is the most since the 2023 season.
