Women’s volleyball drops final match of weekend

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Hood College women's volleyball team could not stage a reverse sweep comeback against Randolph College, falling in four sets to the Wildcats as part of a three-game weekend for the Blazers.

Inside the Box Score
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) led the team with seven kills and three service aces.

Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek) had three total blocks in the match.

Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) had the most assists with 10.

Katie Goddard (Keedysville, Md/Boonsboro) finished the afternoon with eight digs.

How it Happened
Hood took an early 5-3 lead in the first set as it looked to bounce back after two losses the day before, but an 11-1 run from Randolph put the Blazers in a hole they could not get out of, only scoring two more points as the Wildcats won the last 10 in a row to take a 1-0 match lead.

Set two was all Randolph, as the host team raced out to an 11-1 lead right away and never looked back, maintaining the double-digit lead the rest of the way to a 2-0 advantage.

Facing a third sweep in as many games, Hood rallied right away to take a 10-7 advantage. Although the Wildcats scored the next three to tie things up, the Blazers kept their composure and stayed with their opponent late in the set. With both teams sitting at 20 on the scoreboard, Hood used an ace and another kill from Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) to score five of the next six points and force a fourth set.

The Blazers looked like they would be able to force a fifth set early on with a slight 7-6 advantage. Unfortunately, a 10-1 run from Randolph put Hood in too deep of a hole once again, as the Wildcats snuffed out any potential comebacks before claiming the set and the match victory.

For the Opponent
Kelsey Bowler led the Wildcats with 12 kills.

Kailee Turner had 32 kills and nine digs.
