CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Junior
Dani Farias' (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) first goal as a Blazer was the difference-maker in the Hood College women's soccer team's match against Wilson College, as goalkeeper
Ashley Stine (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) earned another shutout in the 1-0 win.
Inside the Box Score
Farias scored the game's lone goal, with
Ryley Backer (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) assisting on it.
Stine recorded her third consecutive clean sheet.
How it Happened
The Blazers went on the attack right away, forcing the Wilson keeper to make two saves less than five minutes into the match. Although the Phoenix were able to put one on goal shortly after, it was safely saved by Stine.
Hood continued putting pressure on with shots from
Sara Yeich (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) and
Catie Roberts (Elkton, Md./North East), but keeper Madison Ebersole continued to stop them from getting behind her to keep goose eggs for both teams on the scoreboard. Despite a consistent number of shots getting on goal, the Blazers could not solve Ebersole and headed into the locker room still tied 0-0 at halftime.
Wilson got the first opportunity to attack less than five minutes into the second half, but a good save from Stine allowed Hood to counter quickly, and a rocket from Farias found the back of the net to break the ice and give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
Despite Hood continuing to get a plethora of chances, a bigger lead was just inches away as Backer and Farias took turns completing the woodwork challenge before the next shot was deflected away by Ebersole. With the constant offensive output on the Phoenix side of the field though, the home team never got another good shot on goal as the Blazers came away with the 1-0 win.
For the Opponent
Ebersole made 11 saves in the loss
