Women’s volleyball corralled by Mustangs

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College women's volleyball team dropped its first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match against Stevenson University, falling in three straight sets in the "Battle of I-70".

Set Scores
The Mustangs won 25-12, 25-21, 25-21.

Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led the team with 11 kills.

Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) ended the match with 27 assists.

Emma McGraw (Forest Hill, Md./Concordia Preparatory) finished the evening with 11 digs.

How it Happened
Although the Blazers started the match well with a slight 5-4 lead over their local conference rival, the rest of the set was all Stevenson, with the visitors going on a 13-1 run that ended the first set quickly in favor of the Mustangs.

Set two started similarly to how set one ended, as Stevenson put Hood in an early 6-2 hole, and although the Blazers would take the next three points to get within one, the ensuing 9-2 run from the Mustangs seemed to put this one out of reach as well.
Hood would not go down without a fight, though, as a kill from Skylar Plante (Big Pool, Md./Clear Spring) sparked a 7-1 run to get back within two points at 16-14. A good amount of back-and-forth play got the Blazers within one once again at 22-21, but Stevenson took the next three points for a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was a dogfight from the beginning, with both squads exchanging points and two- or three-point bursts as Hood looked to extend the match. Despite the Mustangs holding a solid 15-12 lead midway through the set, the Blazers used a kill from
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) to spark a four-point run that put them in the lead. Stevenson tied things up right after, but the squads continued to exchange the lead until late when a four-point run from the Mustangs put Hood in a 21-18 hole. The Blazers would not be able to reclaim the lead after that, with Stevenson eventually closing out the set and completing the 3-0 sweep.

For the Opponent
Logan Burge led with seven kills.

Giulia Vigilietta totaled seven aces.

Lilly Hornickle had seven blocks.

Notes
Hood drops to 4-9 (0-1), and Stevenson improves to 5-5 (1-0).
