FREDERICK, Md. – The women's volleyball team traveled just past the Mason-Dixon line to take down Penn State Mont Alto in straight sets 3-0 on Friday night.
Inside the Box Score
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) led the charge with eight kills and 14 digs on the afternoon.
Skylar Plante (Big Pool, Md./Clear Spring) totaled six kills and a .500 attack percentage.
Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) collected 30 assists on the evening.
How it Happened
A couple of errors put the Nittany Lions up 4-2 to remind the Blazers of the PSUAC success, but Hood bounced back with a streak capitalized by Plante's three straight aces.
Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek) and Ricketts would stay strong at the net and put ball to opponent floor to end set one in favor of the Blazers.
Ricketts continued the streak at the line with a pair of service aces to start set two. Now with a little more rhythm finding the likes of
Mary LeBlanc (Suffolk, Va/Stonebridge) and Madden to keep the gas on the pedal.
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) although quiet, used her power at the kill to leave the home squad behind again.
Ofoegbu got the baton at the start of the final set and went to work to break the 3-3 tie and give Hood the multi-point lead. After a Mont Alto timeout, the Nittany Lions found new life and crept back into a set where they trailed by almost 10. Even though they forced extra points in the set and called another timeout, the Blazers put the ball in the opposition's hand to make mistakes and ultimately overpowered their foe in the final meeting.
