Men’s soccer fights to a draw with Gophers

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hood College men's soccer team could not figure out a way past the goalkeeping of Goucher College, as the zeroes on the scoreboard went from one end to the other with neither team finding the back of the net after 90 minutes of play.

Inside the Box Score
Adam Labows (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) made two saves in the contest.

How it Happened
The Blazers got an early offensive opportunity when Terrell Funchess (Taneytown, Md./Henry E. Lackey) forced the keeper to make a save just three minutes into the game, but despite consistent pressure in the Gophers' backfield for the first 10 minutes, nothing would find the back of the net before the ball was cleared away.

Hood survived an onslaught of shots from Goucher without any being on goal and had its best chance to break the ice with Caleb Terry (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) getting a shot off, but the ball clanged off the post and Funchess' follow-up was put wide. James Knowlton (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) was subbed in and immediately had a shot at the net, but it was caught by keeper Ale Sternini to prevent any further chances. Neither team had any better looks before the halftime buzzer went off to send the teams into halftime with zeroes on the board.

Early chances for the Gophers in the second half were blocked away, but the Blazers could not put anything of their own past Sternini as both teams continued looking for the winning strike. Goucher would get a late offensive outburst with less than seven minutes in the match, but Labows was up to task, keeping the match level at 0-0 as the final horn sounded.

For the Opponent
Sternini saved four shots in the match.
