CHESTER, Pa. – The Hood College Women's basketball team clashed with the Pride of Widener University Saturday afternoon, falling in the contest 76-52.

Maya Byrd-Gross (Onley, Md./Don Bosco) lead the Blazers with 13 points and added four steals.
Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, Fla./Long Reach) hit double figures with 10 points and led the team in steals with five.
Nyjah Harris (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) neared a double-double with seven points and grabbed nine boards in the game.
How it Happened
The Blazers faced a formidable opponent against the Pride of Widener University, and a hot start was needed for Hood to gain the upper hand in the contest.
A Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) made layup just 15 seconds into the game would give the Blazers the spark and confidence needed to try and upset Widener.
The Blazers and the Pride looked to find their footing, but the next basket wouldn't be until over two minutes into the game after a fast break layup from Widener's Jayla Daniels made the score back even two a piece.
Both teams found a spark offensively to end the first quarter, but Widener held the advantage over Hood 18-11.
Unlike the first quarter, the Pride attacked the Blazers and extended its lead 24 to 11 in favor of Widener.
Hood stood firm under attack and battled through, but Widener would hold a double-digit lead headed into the half up 41-20.
Despite the lead, Hood responded early into the third, with a layup made by
Maya Byrd-Gross (Onley, Md./Don Bosco) that chipped into the lead, followed by a
Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, Fla./Long Reach) three, as the Blazers showed signs of life.
The deficit at halftime caught up with Hood in the third, and unable to respond despite the Blazers valiant effort, the Pride would hold the lead headed into the fourth up 59-32.
Hood tried to respond in the fourth quarter, but each attempt was met with Widener responding, and putting to bed the hopes of a Blazers upset as Widener went on to be victorious in battle 76-52.
For the Opponent
Riley Stackhouse led the Pride in points with 15.
Lindsay Kutz had 14 points and dished out five assist, and five rebounds.
Analysis
Hood shot 35.4% from the field, while Widener shot 43.1%.
Widener held the advantage in bench points over Hood 39 to 12.
Hood led in rebounds with 42, to Widener's 35.
Notes
Hood falls to 3-16 overall, and 0-8 in conference play.
Widener improves to 15-4 overall, and 6-2 in conference play.
