Women’s basketball bitten by Lions

READING, Pa. – The Hood College women's volleyball team fell to Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Albright 59-28 to start conference play off with a loss.

Inside the Box Score
Nyjah Harris (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) came down with eight rebounds and dished out eight assists.

Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, Fla./Long Reach) ended the evening with eight points.

How it Happened
Hood would score the first points of the game on its first possession of the game, as Maya Byrd-Gross (Onley, Md./Don Bosco) drove through the defense for a layup just 44 seconds in. That lead would last for less than a minute and a half before Albright tied things up and then took the lead for itself. The Lions would then go on a 10-2 run the rest of the quarter to make it a 14-6 deficit for the Blazers after 10 minutes of play.

To start the second, Hood would score four of the first seven points with buckets from Putman and Shylah Taylor (Cumberland, Md./Allegany), but the Blazers would manage just two more points total the rest of the quarter, with Albright adding to its lead for a 26-12 affair at halftime.

The Lions would continue building upon their momentum coming out into the second half, scoring 19 points in the third quarter compared to just five for Hood. This gave the visiting Blazers a 45-17 disadvantage, with neither team scoring for nearly the final four minutes of the quarter.

Heading into the final quarter, Hood once again scored the first points of the period, starting off with a 5-2 run over the first 2:34. Unfortunately, the Lions would respond and maintain their offensive output, preventing a Blazers' comeback and dealing them a loss in their first conference game of the season.

For the Opponent
Julia Zakovitch led Albright with 10 points.

Ciarra Gibbs finished with seven points and nine rebounds.

Analysis
The Lions shot 38% from the field, compared to just 25% for the Blazers.

Albright's bench outscored Hood's 27-5.

The Lions outrebounded the Blazers 52-35.

Notes
Hood falls to 3-9 (0-1), while Albright improves to 5-7 (1-0).
