Softball swept in opening doubleheader

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hood College softball team fell in its first doubleheader of the season, losing 10-0 and 8-0 to Catholic University

On the Mound
Sydney Weaver (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) allowed seven earned runs and took the loss in game one.

Taylor Lowe (Laurel, Del./Delmarva Christian) allowed seven earned runs in game two for the loss.

Catholic 10, Hood 0 (5 inn.)
The Blazers fell into an early 1-0 hole in the bottom of the first, but after going down in order in the top of the second, the Cardinals managed to add two more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Although Hood got out of the third inning unscathed, it was unable to get on the board itself and cut its deficit, and a seven-run inning from Catholic in the fourth inning set up a potentially early end to game one.

Back-to-back walks and a Hanna Janke (Calgary, Alberta, Can./Bishop Carroll) single loaded the bases for the Blazers and gave them a chance to keep the game going, but the next two batters struck out to end both their threat and the game in just five innings.

Catholic 8, Hood 0 (6 inn.)
Hood had a bit of déjà vu to start game two, falling behind 1-0 in the first and eventually going down 3-0 by the end of the second inning.

Lowe managed to stay out of trouble for a while, striking out two in the third inning and continuing to force outs for the next several innings.

Unfortunately, Catholic managed to start getting runners on base in the sixth inning, and the hits eventually became too much, as the Cardinals were able to plate five runs to end the game early again.
