WINCHESTER, Va. – After a burst of runs in the first inning on both sides, the Shenandoah Hornets piled a lead and kept in front in a 13-5 win over the Blazers on Wednesday afternoon on the road.
On the Mound
Tim Rio (Manassas, Va./Unity Reed) pitched four innings and allowed four hits on six runs.
In the Batter's Box
Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) collects two hits and earns two free passes on the day.
Jason Rivera (Smithsburg, Md./Saint Maria Goretti) notched a multi-hit day for the first time as a Blazer.
Kamari Chisolm (Gainesville, Va./Bishop O'Connell) drew three walks on the day.
From the Bullpen
Aaron Heller (Philadelphia, Pa./Jack Barrack Hebrew Acad.) threw a scoreless inning in a relief.
How it Happened
Brown led the game off with a double and a pair of Blazers after the first out would join aboard with the bases loaded. Two Blazer walks by
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) and
Blaine Smith (Hume, Va./Fauquier) would give a 2-0 edge to Hood.
Landon Vile (Luray, Va./Luray) would work a productive groundout to finish the top of the first scoring at 3-0.
Shenandoah would hand a four-spot with the ingredients of a pair of singles, a walk, a fielder's choice and then a homer to take the one-run lead. The Hornets would build in the fourth and the sixth to a 10-3 lead.
Michael Janicki (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) would earn a pinch hit knock in the eighth and later score on a
Cole Sims (Elkton, Md./Saint Mark's) double to create the first Hood run since the first. They would earn one more run via a free pass to first with the bases loaded but be far too behind to gather momentum.
For the Opponent
Nick Bell pitched 3 1/3 innings on scoreless baseball.
Tyler Smith had six RBIs including two homers on the afternoon.
