How it Happened
Widener wasted no time putting Hood in an early hole, as the Pride started the match on a 10-3 run. The Blazers struggled early and could not find much offense, and Widener was able to build its lead to 16-7 midway through and did not allow Hood any breathing room to take the first set and a 1-0 match lead.
The Blazers got off to a much better start in set two, with a pair of kills and an ace from Casas putting them ahead 3-1. Two quick points from the Pride tied the set, but a 6-1 run from Hood gave the home team a little more breathing room. Widener managed to fight back though, as a 7-3 run got them within a point at 12-11, and a 9-1 run immediately following flipped the momentum entirely to the other side. The Blazers got a couple to get within 17-15, but that would be the closest they would get before the Pride got their 25th point to go up 2-0.
Although Widener went up early at 7-3, Hood was able to hang around and hover around a four-point deficit. With the Pride ahead 18-12, the Blazers got the crowd at Woodsboro Bank Arena up and loud with a 5-1 run to get within two at 19-17. Four straight points from Widener cut the comeback short however, and the Pride went on to complete the sweep.
For the Opponent
Christian Wannamaker led Widener with 10 kills.
Jason Sandberg had 20 assists.
Kevin Tinio ended the match with 10 digs.
