FREDERICK, Md. – On a misty night both teams peppered the pipes and fought hard on the defensive end to slow the game, but Hood prevailed with their one-on-one play to defeat the Saints of Marymount 7-4 at Thomas Athletic Field on Wednesday night.
Inside the Box Score
JT Harich (Point of Rocks, MD./Brunswick) posted a hat trick with five shots on goal.
Alex Odenheimer (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) scored a pair on the evening.
Lucas Strand (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) went 12-of-14 at the faceoff with four ground balls.
Trent Leuba (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) saved 10 and earned the W.
How it Happened
Odenheimer chugged to his right fading away from the goal and sent a shot to the top left of the cage for an early lead for the Blue & Grey just 36 seconds in. The Blazers got the offense on the move with five shots on goal to Marymount's one in the first period.
The first quarter clock would run dry quick as it only saw two faceoffs and minimal stoppage.
The second started at the faceoff with the Blazers taking control and retreating to their defensive zone, but a push up field was intercepted by a Saint and led to the equalizer by William Cate just 34 seconds in.
Just before the 10-minute mark Hood faced a man down situation and an attempted in close quarters but the Blazer goalie Leuba took it off center of mass to kill the power play.
Later Isaic Nafziger got a one-on-one opportunity on attack and roll off his man and fired a shot that clipped the pipe and in to retake the lead two minutes later.
JT Harich (Point of Rocks, MD./Brunswick) would sneak past the final line of defense and plant the Blazer's third goal thanks to a
Deegan Workman (Chattanooga, Tenn./Soddy Daisy) wondrous dish shortly after.
With the score, the identity the Blazers were trying to find seemed to click and the attack showed its comfort with its next moves.
The Blazers would open the second half just as point guard would dump off to a big at the elbow, Nafziger found Harich and he stepped up with a big shot to finish off his third goal of the night.
Thereafter the hosts would score three in the fourth to put Marymount away by a few after their last three matchups ended in a one-score game.
For the Opponent
Jack Gillespie gathered five ground balls.
Jacob Brooks made 11 saves on the evening.
