HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Hood College men's volleyball team was unable to upset No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology, falling 3-0 in straight sets on the road.
Set Scores
The Ducks defeated the Blazers 25-15, 25-13, 25-16.
Inside the Box Score
Charles Casas (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) led the team with 12 kills and six digs.
Cameron Nugent (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) ended the evening with 19 assists.
How it Happened
Despite being underdogs, Hood found itself with a 3-1 lead early in the first set. A 10-1 run from Stevens quickly gave the home team the lead back though, and although the Blazers kept up with the Ducks for a bit and kept it to an 18-12 deficit, Stevens would use a 6-1 run to eventually clinch the set and the 1-0 match lead.
Kills from Casas and Joel Wantz (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) helped Hood tie the second set early 3-3, but the Ducks scored six straight to give themselves a more comfortable advantage. Hood was able to stay in the hunt for a bit thanks to more kills from Casas that had the Blazers down 16-9, but another six-point run from Stevens effectively iced the set.
Down to its last shot, Hood again was able to keep up with the Ducks for the first part of set three, using a kill from
Blake Catts (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) to get enough momentum and get within one point with a 6-5 deficit. Stevens would open things up with a 10-1 run though and get another double-digit lead. After maintaining that lead to a 20-10 advantage, the Blazers looked like they were going to make a comeback attempt with a 4-1 run, but the Ducks got the final five points they needed to complete the sweep.
For the Opponent
Colin Hughes led Stevens with 12 kills.
Holden Findley finished the match with 26 assists.
