FREDERICK, Md. – Hood College baseball opened a pivotal MAC Commonwealth Conference series with strong work from Friday pitching and capitalizing late on miscues to take down York College of Pennsylvania 5–2 Friday afternoon at FCC Baseball Field.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) goes seven strong allowing just two runs earning himself the win.
Mason Potter (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) held down the fort in the save allowing only one hit in two innings of relief.
In the Batter's Box
Rhett Robbins (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) totals two runs scored and an RBI with his triple highlighting the day.
Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) draws three walks and scores once on the day.
How it Happened
After escaping trouble in the top half, the Blazers set the tone immediately in the bottom of the first with Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) lining a double down the right-field line and Robbins following with a sharp single through the left side to bring Seely home quickly for the game's first run. Robbins later moved into scoring position on a passed ball, and Hood capitalized again when Kamari Chisolm (Gainesville, Va./Bishop O'Connell) drove in Robbins with a base hit finding its way through the infield to give the Blazers a 2–0 advantage.
Hood starter Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) worked out of the jam in the first and then he continued to keep the Spartans in check through the next few frames, scattering hits and relying on his defense as third baseman Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) and shortstop AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) assisted on 15 outs combined.
The Spartans were resilient and broke through in the fourth inning, using a pair of hits to plate two runs and tie the game at 2–2. York Pa. led off the inning with a single, followed by a hit-by-pitch, and after a sacrifice bunt moved both runners up, a groundout and an RBI double evened the score.
Hood responded in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead. Robbins led off with a triple to straightaway center, and moments later crossed the plate when Ty Broughton (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) reached on a York error, putting the Blazers back in front 3–2. Hood continued to apply pressure in the inning, but York was able to keep the deficit to a single run.
Albright settled back in from there, retiring York hitters efficiently as the game moved into the later innings. The Blazers' defense also came up with a key double play in the seventh to erase a potential Spartan rally.
Hood added crucial insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. Brown drew a walk again to get things started, and Chisolm delivered again with a single down the right-field line. With pressure on the York pitcher, a balk allowed Brown to score, making it 4–2. Later in the inning, Jonathan Tyndall (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) reached on an error, allowing Chisolm to come home and extend the Blazers' lead to 5–2.

Hood improves to 14–15 overall and 8–5 in MAC Commonwealth play.
York drops to 12–16 overall and 5–8 in conference action.
