GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Hood College men's lacrosse team faced another streaking MAC Commonwealth opponent in Messiah and used a strong defensive effort to keep them in the race but were edged out 7–2 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
Inside the Box Score
David Lubrano (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) and Reegan Tesche both netted goals in the matchup.
Lucas Strand (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) went 8-for-13 on the faceoff while picking up six ground balls.
Brennan McKeown (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) marked two caused turnovers and three groundballs.
Calvin Morris (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) saved 15 shots on the night.
How it Happened
The opening 15 minutes showed good defensive play on both sides to keep it a draw 0-0. Hood overcame nine turnovers and five shots on goal as goalkeeper Morris put together five stops to keep a charging Falcon team off the board.
Messiah finally broke through first at the 11:53 mark and then again five minutes later leaving Hood falling behind 2–0. Later, Lubrano put Hood on the board as he received the ball at the top of the offense and then took a long shot rolling to his left for with just five minutes left in the quarter to cut the deficit to one. Hood went into halftime trailing 3–1 after taking on almost 30 shots.
The second half saw the Blazers take care of the ball better, but the Falcons spent more time on the attack. Messiah capitalized on a man-up opportunity and added another late goal to extend its lead. Hood's defense continued to battle, but continued to take on fire.
Hood tacked one more on in the fourth when
Regan Tesche (Avondale, Pa./Salesianum School) was left on an island on the right side and finished a feed from
Deegan Workman (Chattanooga, Tenn./Soddy Daisy) to pull the Blazers back within three. However, the Blue & Grey were outlasted slowly by the foes.
Notes
After the last two conference games for the Falcons had a goal differential average of 16 goals, the five-goal win was the smallest margin of victory in their MACC Commonwealth journey.
Hood falls to 7-5, 2-2 in conference play.
Messiah improves to 7-5, 3-1 in conference play.
