Men's Soccer soars by the Seahawks in home opener

FREDERICK, Md. – The men's soccer team took care of business in Hood's home opener against St. Mary's College of Maryland winning 3-1. 
  
Inside the Box Score 
 
Aidan Wright (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) netted his first ever goal as a Blazer. 
 
N'Tony Kalala (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) faked out the St. Mary's goalkeeper scoring a late game penalty kick. 
 
Adam Labows (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) made four saves earning his first win of the 2026 season. 
 
How it Happened 

Following the first whistle, both teams set the tone with early physicality.  Before the first half the Seahawks drew two yellow cards.  

Then in the final minute before halftime Daniel Mercado (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton)
sent in a ball from the corner that grazed the fist of the Seahawks goalie and found its way into the back of the net.  

Opening up
the second half of play St. Mary's Maximus Cerulla evened out the score at 1-1 on his second attempt at Labows.  

In the 71
st minute of the match Kamarre Lawrence (Brandywine, Md./Saint Vincent Pallotti) sent a hail mary pass to an open Wright breaking past the Seahawks defense and gaining the lead 2-1 in Hood's favor.  

Finally, in the 87
th minute of the game Kalala was fouled hard on a potential scoring opportunity and ultimately earned himself a 1-on-1 with the Seahawks keeper. Then as Kalala set up his penalty strike he stutter stepped to the right, faked to his left and took a right footed shot to the right side of the goal solidifying the 3-1 win for the Blazers.  
 
  
Notes 

The Blazers led the Seahawks in corner kicks 7-4.  
 
St. Mary's edged Hood in shots with 15 to the Blazers' 13. 
 
This game marks the first time in history that the program earned a victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland in nine contests.

The Blazers will travel north to Oneonta, NY to play in the Mayor's Cup Tournament where they will face the hosting Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday, September 5 at 3 p.m..
