FREDERICK, Md. – After a stagnate first half, the field hockey team capitalized on their second half offense to shut out the Phoenix of Wilson College 1-0 at home on Tuesday evening.
Inside the Box Score
Bianca Scally (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) netted the lone goal in the match.
Harper Buettner (Haymarket, Va./Gainesville) posted her first career shutout with one save on the day.
Emma Massey (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) and Ava Snelsire (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) each had a shot on goal.
How it Happened
Although the opening quarter appeared to look even for both teams, the Phoenix came out the gate receiving two penalty corners that unfortunately for Wilson, they could not capitalize on. However, the Blazers would lead this quarter in shots 2-1.
Moving on to the second quarter of play leaned more in favor of Hood as the Blazer defense did not allow a shot from the Phoenix while the Blazer offense had two quality looks at the Wilson goal with one shot resulting in a save. As the half concluded, the score was still tied up at 0-0.
Heading into the first eight minutes of the third quarter, the Blazers' Midfielder Scally pushed past an army of Phoenix defenders and took a strike past the Wilson goalkeeper to score the one and only goal in the game, putting Hood up 1-0.
Before the third quarter ended, Hood's
Emily Materna (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) committed an infraction that landed her a seat in the green card chair. With this card Hood began the fourth quarter man down. Although the Phoenix started the quarter with the strong hand, the Blazers were still able to persevere winning the match 1-0.
For the Opponent
Erin Sullivan made 4 saves in the contest.
