FREDERICK, Md.--Sofiane Lazar and Jason Anderson each netted a
pair of goals but the Hood College men's lacrosse team suffered a
16-6 setback to the visiting Shenandoah Hornets Friday in
non-conference action at Thomas Athletic Field.
The Blazers fall to 0-13 while the Hornets improve to 6-1.
Playing just their second home game of the season, the Blazers
had to play catch up in the first quarter falling behind 3-0 in the
first 4:47. But Jason Anderson broke through for Hood at the 2:48
mark of the first quarter and Anderson fed Lazar 1:28 later to cut
the deficit to 3-2 after one period.
After Anderson netted his seventh man-up goal of the season at
the 12:06 mark of the second quarter, Stephen Mayor reeled off
three straight tallies to make it 7-3 Shenandoah. But Blake Rust
notched his sixth goal of the year just before halftime and the
Blazers trailed 7-3 at intermission.
Hood was held scoreless in the third quarter; meanwhile the
Hornets cashed in on two extra-man opportunities in the period,
netted a pair of goals in a span of 42 seconds to assume a 9-4
advantage.
The Blazers registered a man-up goal of their own just 37
seconds into the fourth quarter when Alex Tkacz found Bryan Lentz
who blasted his seventh score of the spring. Shenandoah then
proceeded to outscore Hood 7-1 the rest of the way.
Sam Hofmann finished with 14 saves for the Blazers while Michael
O'Brien and Jeremy Tovar split time in the cage and combined for 14
stops.
Hood has two Capital Athletic Conference games left on its
schedule - Wednesday at home against York College (Pa.) and
Saturday against Villa Julie College at M&T Bank Stadium in
Baltimore.
