FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (0-2)
suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of the visiting Bryn Mawr
College Owls (1-1) Friday afternoon in a nonconference game at
Thomas Athletic Field.
For the second straight year, the Owls came away with a slim
victory over the Blazers, after earning a 1-0 win in double
overtime last fall at home.
Despite the loss, Hood held a decided advantage in total shots
(20-11) and penalty corners (12-3). The Owls scored the lone goal
of the afternoon when senior midfielder Ashley Dawkins converted a
penalty shot at the 15:06 mark of the first half.
Hood managed seven shots on goal, but all seven were turned away
by Bryn Mawr goalie Caitlin Evans. Hood's Ashley Saylor rejected
eight Owl shot attempts on the day.
The Blazers next travel to Rosemont College Sunday for a 10 a.m.
nonconference contest.
