FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's lacrosse team (0-2, 0-2
CAC) fell to the University of Mary Washington Eagles (1-1, 1-0
CAC) by a final of 18-7 in its home opener at Thomas Athletic Field
Wednesday.
Mary Washington scored its first goal off the opening face-off
and would add two more scores before the Blazers got on the board
on a Sofiane Lazar tally at the 5:06 mark of the first quarter.
Hood and Mary Washington alternated goals the rest of the period
and the Eagles led 5-2 after one quarter of action.
Hood struck first in the second quarter and drew to within 5-3
when Kris Miner assisted Alex Tkacz's first goal of the season just
1:10 into the stanza. But the Eagles outscored the Blazers 4-1 the
rest of the half and led 9-4 at the break.
Hood once again was quick to score in the third quarter when
Jason Anderson cashed in on a man-up opportunity just 1:04 into the
period. From there the Eagles ripped off eight straight goals to
take a 17-5 lead with 12:29 left in the fourth quarter and went on
to win 18-7.
Anderson finished with four points on two goals and two assists
while Lazar also finished with a pair of goals. Dominique Shorter
and Daniel Rocker registered their first scores in the blue and
grey in the losing effort.
Sam Hofmann and Nicholas O'Brien split time in the net and
combined for 13 saves.
Brent Fisk paced the Eagle attack with four goals and was one of
11 different Eagles who found the back of the net on the afternoon.
The Blazers' next three games will all be on the road beginning
with a trip to York, Pa., to take on the York College Spartans
Saturday at 3 p.m. in a CAC tilt.
