ALLENTOWN, Pa.--The Hood College field hockey team (1-3) and the
Cedar Crest College Falcons (2-4) engaged in over 100 minutes of
action Saturday before the Falcons emerged victorious by virtue of
two penalty strokes.
After a scoreless first half, Cedar Crest drew first blood when
Jess Sanchez converted a penalty stroke in the 45th minute. But the
Blazers netted the equalizer with just 4:31 remaining in regulation
when Samantha Liptrap scored her first goal in the blue and gray.
Despite outshooting the Falcons 8-6 in the second half, the Blazers
were unable to register the game-winner sending the contest into
overtime.
This time Cedar Crest had the upperhand on shots, attempting
four to Hood's two, but, after 15 minutes, neither team found the
cage, forcing a second overtime session.
After a second scoreless 15-minute sudden-victory session, the
outcome of the contest would be decided by penalty strokes. Cedar
Crest's Heather Gallagher and Eryn Ziegler both notched scores on
their attempts, but the Blazers were unable to convert any of their
four strokes and the Falcons walked away with the victory.
Jen Lacy came up with six saves in defeat while Rachel Orlen
made nine stops for the victors.
Hood returns to action Saturday, Sept. 27, at Sweet Briar
College for a 2 p.m. nonconference tilt.
