FREDERICK, Md.--Attackman Brad Smith scored four goals and
assisted on six others for the Wesley College Wolverines (7-2, 4-1
CAC) in a 20-9 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the Hood
College men's lacrosse team (1-8, 0-3 CAC) Wednesday afternoon at
Thomas Athletic Field.
Freshman attackman Troy Hubbard gave the Blazers a lift just 10
seconds into the game when he scored his 11th goal of the season
off the first face-off. But the Wolverines rattled off the next
four scores, capped by a man-up goal by Nick Pisacano, and Wesley
led 5-2 after the first period.
Hood and Wesley matched goals to start the second quarter but
the Wolverines tallied three scores in the final 2:03 of the half
to assume a 10-4 lead at halftime.
The Wolverines put the game out of reach in the third stanza,
outscoring the Blazers 7-2. Hood's Sofiane Lazar, Nick Spicer and
Kris Miner all scored within a span of 3:30 late in the fourth
quarter, but it was not enough as the Wolverines improved to 4-1 in
league play.
Miner finished with his second straight hat trick while Nick
Spicer scored on all three of his attempts for his first hat trick
of the season. Hubbard contributed four points on two goals and two
assists and Blake Rust notched his first two assists of the season.
Lazar's tally in the fourth quarter was his seventh of the spring.
Wesley outshot the Blazers 56-27 but the Blazers came away with
19 of the game's 32 face-offs. Hector Montoya was credited with 16
wins, one away from his season-high. Nick O'Brien stopped 15 Wesley
shots on the afternoon.
Hood returns to action Saturday at the University of Mary
Washington. Face-off for this CAC tilt is slated for 1 p.m.
