FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Megan Cahill of the Hood College field
hockey team (3-5, 0-3 CAC) notched her first collegiate goal in the
second half in a 2-1 Capital Athletic Conference loss to the
Stevenson University Mustangs (3-5, 1-3 CAC) on a blustery
afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
Stevenson's leading scorer Katelyn Manocheh notched a pair of
goals, one in each half, to lift the visitors to their first CAC
win of the season. Her first score came just 3:36 into the game off
a feed from Brittany Martin. Then in the 56th minute, Sarah Bauer
set up Manocheh for her team-leading fifth tally of the fall.
Cahill found the back of the cage in the 63rd minute to cut the
Mustang lead in half. Senior Brandy Noel found Cahill streaking to
the cage and collected her second assist of the season when Cahill
beat Stevenson keeper Kara Zimmerman.
The Blazers had two penalty corners in the final seven minutes
but both of freshman Michelle Buhrman's attempts were blocked by
Mustang defenders.
Hood outshot the Mustangs, 20-9, but was unable to net the
equalizer. Zimmerman finished with 10 saves in the victory while
Hood goalie Anne Marie Hantman turned away a pair of shots on the
day.
The Blazers next travel to Wesley College Friday for a 7 p.m.
CAC tilt.
