YORK, Pa.--Seniors Blake Rust and Sofiane Lazar and
sophomore Corey Roberts all scored one goal apiece for the Hood
College men's lacrosse team (5-4, 0-1 CAC) in a 15-3 Capital
Athletic Conference setback to the York College (Pa.) Spartans
(4-5, 1-0 CAC) Wednesday afternoon.
Lazar drew first blood for the Blazers 3:19 into the first
quarter with his eighth goal of the season. But the Spartans netted
seven unanswered goals, including three apiece from Josh Gamble and
Ryan McNicholas. Roberts ripped his team-leading 16th goal of the
spring at the 7:15 mark of the second quarter but the Blazers
trailed 10-2 at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter for Hood, Rust cashed in on a
man-up opportunity off a pass from Troy Hubbard for his fifth tally
of the spring.
William Lane and John Martin split time between the pipes. Lane
made three saves in the first half while Martin was credited with
five stops in the second half.
Hector Montoya won seven face-offs and Jeff Tarleton and Jeff
Balinsky picked up five ground balls each.
Gamble and McNicholas had a hand in 12 of the Spartans' 15
goals. Gamble finished with seven points on five goals and two
assists while McNicholas scored five times as well.
Hood returns home Saturday to host the College of Mount St.
Vincent Dolphins on Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. Hood will honor seniors
Rust, Tarleton, Lazar, Balinsky and Mike Matteson before the
contest.
