Spartans Down Hood Men, 9-2

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's lacrosse team (3-4, 0-2 CAC) suffered a 9-2 Capital Athletic Conference setback to the visiting York College (Pa.) Spartans (6-2, 2-0 CAC) on an overcast Wednesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Blazer defense put forth a valiant effort, holding the Spartans to just nine goals, the second-fewest allowed by a Hood team against a CAC opponent all-time. Sophomore netminder John Martin stopped a career-high-tying 15 attempts on the day, including several at point-blank range.

Sophomore defender Doug Brisbane ripped his second goal of the season late in the first period to end a string of three straight Spartan tallies. After the Spartans controlled the game's fourth face-off, senior James Larrimore forced York's Jimmy Langton to turn the ball over and the Blazers quickly cleared the ball into their offensive zone. Martin launched the ball ahead to Brisbane, who fired one past keeper Tyler Powell to get Hood on the scoreboard.

The Blazers limited York to a single goal in the second quarter as Martin came up with six rejections in that period alone. Hood trailed 4-1 at halftime.

York outshot the Blazers in the third period, 7-4, but mustered just one goal off the stick of John Dubois, his first of two on the day.

Hood started the fourth quarter strong when senior Kris Miner notched his team-high 11th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 5-2. But the Spartans reeled off four unanswered scores for the final margin.

First-year Randolph Clark won six face-offs on the day while Larrimore finished the day with four forced turnovers and seven ground balls.

Hood continues CAC action Saturday at Wesley College in a 1 p.m. matchup. This will be Hood's first road game since March 2.
