Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (5-6) fell to the visiting Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays (11-4) 3-0 (17-25, 8-25, 16-25) Thursday evening at Gambrill Gymnasium.
The Blue Jays took control early in the first set but the Blazers battled back to take a 7-6 lead on an Alyssa Eshleman ace. The two teams traded points over the next several exchanges before the Blue Jays reeled off five straight points to go up 18-12. Hopkins would not relinquish its lead and captured the first set, 25-17.
Hopkins dominated the second set, scoring the first 12 points of the stanza and went on to win with little trouble, 25-8.
It was slow going for the Blazers once again in set number three as the Blue Jays opened up a 10-1 lead. Hood chipped away at the deficit and closed to within 19-14 on a Blue Jay attack error. But the Blazers would get no closer as the Blue Jays completed the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
Amy Hagerdon posted a team-high six kills to go along with eight assists and eight digs. Ashley Park-Brouse finished with five kills while Eshleman contributed four kills, three aces and a team-best 11 digs.
The Blazers next travel to St. Mary's City, Md., Saturday for a tri-match with the Seahawks and Gettysburg College Bullets beginning at 1 p.m.
