Alvernia Gets Past Field Hockey

READING, Pa. - The Hood College field hockey team fell to Commonwealth Conference foe Alvernia University this afternoon, by a score of 9-0. 

Margaret Wentzel scored five goals for the Crusaders, three came in a seven-minute, four-goal span in the second half to break open the game.

Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) led the Blazers with two shots, and Madeline Birmingham (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) added a defensive save.

Ying Van Schaik (Easton, Md. / Gunston Day School) played a total of 53:14 and made 17 saves on 25 shots, and Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) made four saves on five shots in 16:46.

Erin Munsch made the start for Alvernia, playing 44:11, and Misty Cox made one save in 25:49 of relief. 

Hood returns to Thomas Athletic Field to play host to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays on October 23.
