WASHINGTON—The Hood College men's lacrosse team (0-1) fell to Catholic University (1-0) 9-1 in the opening game of the season for both teams. It was a game that Hood was never able to get a hold of with Catholic running out to an early lead that eventually turned into a deficit that was too much to overcome for the blue and grey.

Senior Doug Brisbane was the lone goal scorer on the day for Hood with his tally coming in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Junior Randolph Clark led the squad in groundballs with five and also won ten of his 13 face off attempts. Sophomore Patrick O'Leary and freshman Nicholas Galliani paced the team with two caused turnovers apiece.

Junior goalkeeper John Martin made 13 saves on 22 shots for Hood, while his counterpart Harrison Holak earned the win with 13 saves on 14 shots.

Catholic got the scoring started early with a goal by Brian Finnegan just 5:53 into the contest. Walter Hickey and Brenden Englert then took over in the second period with each tallying a goal to give Catholic a 4-0 lead heading into intermission.

Hickey added to his total in the third period by scoring two more goals and put an explanation point on the game by tallying his fourth goal in the last period. Hickey ended the game with four goals to pace Catholic, while Hood was left to ponder what went wrong and will look to make adjustments in the coming week.

Hood will return to action next Saturday when they have their first home contest of the season against Rosemont. The game is set to begin a 2 p.m.
