Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.--Senior Alex Engler of the Hood College men's lacrosse team (3-13, 0-7 Commonwealth) scored a career-high three goals and assisted on a fourth in an 11-5 Commonwealth Conference loss to Lycoming College (4-9, 3-3 Commonwealth) Saturday afternoon.
Engler scored twice in the second quarter and again in the fourth to bring his goal tally on the season to nine. Zachary Speights had three points on a goal and two assists while James Weger notched his fourth score of the spring on a man-up opportunity in the opening quarter.
Joseph McCulloh finished with 14 saves while Randolph Clark won 10 of the game's 19 face-offs and amassed 11 ground balls. Domenic Cetrone forced three Warrior miscues while Jared Bileski, Weger, Nicholas Galliani and Billy Larrimore had one caused turnover apiece.
Lycoming scored a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart in the opening quarter but Hood cut the deficit in half on Weger's score with 1:06 remaining in the period. The Warriors outscored the Blazers, 4-2, in the second quarter and led 6-3 at intermission.
Despite being outscored 3-0 in the third period, Hood recorded the first two scores of the fourth quarter to make it 8-5 with 8:25 to play. But the Warriors kept the Blazers out of the net for the remainder of the contest and evened their league record at 3-3.
The Blazers won a total of 13 face-offs but were outshot 36-21.
Hood wraps up the 2013 season Saturday hosting Widener University in a Commonwealth contest at 1 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
