FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College fell 1-0 to Alvernia University in a Commonwealth Conference game.

Alvernia got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute when Margaret Wentzel took a hard shot by the far post for a 1-0 lead. 

In the second half, Hood had several chances to tie the score with shots by Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) in the 43rd minute and Rachel Marlow (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) in the 67th minute. 

Emily Richardson (Sykesville, Md. / Century) made a defensive save for the Blazers late in the half, keeping the match within reach for the Blazers.

Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) stopped 11 shots for Hood. While Alvernia attempted 27 shots in the match, the Blazers' back line of  Marlow, Richardson, Tayler Piper (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) and Laura Lokey (Millville, N.J. / Millville) prevented Alvernia from getting clean looks all afternoon.  

The Blazers take on Neumann for a non-conference game on October 15.
