Briscoe Completes Hat Trick to Help Defeat Cedar Crest 8-2

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) had seven points, third-most in school history, as the Blazers cruised to an 8-2 win over Cedar Crest College.

Hood (3-1) jumped to a quick 2-0 lead to start the game. Briscoe scored her first two goals during the opening 12 minutes. Alysa Billeter (Damascus, Md. / Damascus) assisted on the first goal at 7:36 before an unassisted score by Briscoe made it a two-goal lead.

Shay Braithwaite (Montgomery Village, Md. / Watkins Mill) tallied the third marker of the half off of a cross from Karina Stetsyuk (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson).  Briscoe completed the hat trick to make it 4-0 at the break.

Briscoe, who finished with three goals and an assist, had the team's first hat trick since Stetsyuk completed the feat last season, also against Cedar Crest.

The Blazers started the second half strong, when Rachel Marlow (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) passed to April Ganz (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley), allowing her to drive it into the net for another goal. The Falcons fought back when Jessica Sanbeg scored the Falcons' first goal of the game in the 47th minute.

Hood got back-to-back goals, starting with a penalty stroke by Emily Richardson (Sykesville, Md. / Century).  Quickly after, Justine Maren (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) took a cross by Briscoe, for a 7-0 lead in the 56th minute.

Cedar Crest's Emily Rodenberger scored the team's final goal of the game off a corner. Denise Obi (Newark, Del. / Glasgow) added the last goal for the Blazers in the 60th minute of the game.

Cedar Crest keeper Andi Dargis made two saves, as the Blazers had 20 shots in the contest. Hood goalkeepers Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) and Alexa Rubano (Wallingford, Conn. / Lyman Hall) each made two saves.

This is the team's first 3-1 start since the 2004 season, and the first eight-goal game since 2012.

Hood College takes on Sweet Briar at home on September 11.
