Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College could not keep up with Widener as the Blazers dropped their Commonwealth Conference matchup against the Pride, 13-2.
Gio San Fillipo (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) and Malik Brown (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) scored the two Blazer goals on the day. Joey McCulloh (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) made 13 saves and picked up a team-high six ground balls. Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) won 10-of-18 faceoffs and picked up four ground balls. James Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Jared Bileski picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
San Fillipo tied the game at one with 5:27 remaining in the first quarter on a man up goal. The game would remain tied heading into the second quarter.
The Pride scored four unanswered goals in the second period, stretching out their lead to 5-1 at the half.
Widener would not slow down in the second half, scoring two early goals to start the third quarter. Hood's Brown found the back of the net with 2:35 remaining in the quarter, but Widener answered with a late goal and Widener led 8-2 heading into the fourth.
Widener added five more goals to close out the game, winning 13-2.
Vince Marra paced the Pride with four goals in the contest. Tim Taylor contributed three goals of his own and picked up a game-high eight ground balls. Marc LaVine found the back of the net twice as well. Tyler McClary made five saves in goal.
The Blazers welcome Messiah on April 1 at 3:30 p.m. for a conference battle with the Falcons.
