Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Hood College used a 7-1 run during the second and third quarters to erase an early deficit in a 9-8 win over Lycoming in Commonwealth Conference play.
The Blazers trailed 5-1 in the second quarter, but tallies by Cody Mai (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) and Alex Villegas (New Windsor, Md. / Winters Mill) cut the deficit to two at haltime.
Hood's spree continued into the third quarter. Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley), Rudy Garcia (Jessup, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti), James Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) and Nick Druelinger (Joppa, Md. / John Carroll) each scored during a six minute stretch, ending with Druelinger's man up marker with 6:36 left in the period. After Lycoming slowed down the rally on a Mike Cooper goal, Malik Brown (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) found the back of the net for a 9-6 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Warriors scored twice in the first two minutes of the final period, but it was not enough as the Blazer defense regrouped to preserve the lead.
Villegas scored three times lead Hood. Mai had a goal and an assist. Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou) assisted on two goals and Luke Slick (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) aided on another. Weger and Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Sport) had four ground balls apiece to lead team. Joey McCulloh (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) stopped nine shots.
Lycoming's Cooper had four goals and two assists for six points. Michael Wagner had five ground balls and Trevor Williams caused three turnovers.
The Blazers host Arcadia on April 18 at 1 p.m.
