Second Period Lead Not Enough Against Arcadia

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College pulled ahead with back-to-back goals in the second period, but fell 7-5 to Arcadia in Commonwealth Conference play.

Five Blazers scored one goal apiece. Gio San Fillipo (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) assisted on two goals. James Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) led the team defensively with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Brandon McCormick (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) also added six ground balls. Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) went 9-of-15 on faceoffs and notched four ground balls. Joey McCulloh (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) stopped 12 shots in goal.

The Knight's Danny Riley scored the lone goal of the first period, for a 1-0 lead.

Hood opened the second period quarter with a man up goal by Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou) with the help of San Fillipo at the 13:31 mark (1-1). One minute later, Cody Mai (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) ripped a shot for another goal off Jack Zuckerberg's (Silver Spring, Md. / John F. Kennedy) pass to take the lead 2-1.

Arcadia responded with two more goals to regain control for a 3-2 lead with 10:58 to go. The defense picked up over a seven minute stretch, before Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley) found the back of the net to tie the score, 3-3, with 4:18 on the clock. Rudy Garcia (Jessup, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti) scored with the help of San Fillipo two minutes later for a 4-3 lead. Arcadia added a final goal to tie it up, 4-4, at halftime.

The Knight's continued the scoring in the third period with two goals in the first three minutes, 6-4. Malik Brown (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) found his way through multiple defenders to pull Hood within one with 11:50 to go (6-5). Arcadia scored the final goal of the game one minute later, before the two teams battled through a scoreless fourth.

Riley led the Knight's with three goals. Joe Stanton added two goals and one assist. Kevin Hall had four ground balls and caused one turnover. Billy Van Dyke won six faceoffs. In goal, A.J. Beck made 13 saves.

Hood travels to Albright for a final conference game on April 25.
