Box Score ROSEMONT, Pa. - Hood College dropped its season opener on the road at Rosemont, 10-9.
Alex Villegas (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) led the Blazers with three goals. Freshmen Eddie Somerville (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) and Grayson Zubradt (Elmhurst, Ill. / York Community) had two goals apiece in their collegiate debuts. Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley) assisted on two goals.
Weston Bimstefer (Ellicott City, Md. / River Hill) picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Alexander Elliott (Cornelius, N.C. / West Orange) also caused a pair of turnovers and scored once. John Hoffman (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) started for the first time in his career and made 15 saves in goal.
The Blazers led for much of the contest, but a fourth quarter rally by the Ravens erased a 9-5 Hood advantage in the final six minutes and 21 seconds. Ralph Ibezim's game-high fourth goal of the day proved to be the difference maker with just two seconds left.
Hood came out of the gates quickly, jumping ahead 3-1 after the first quarter. Zubradt scored the first goal and then found the back of the net on a man up situation with three seconds left for his second score.
Rosemont pulled within one on Ibezim's first goal of the day, but Hood scored twice in a span of 41 seconds to lead 5-2 at halftime. Nick Druelinger (Joppa, Md. / John Carroll) had a hand in both second quarter goals. He fed Villegas with 5:36 left in the half, then immediately after the ensuing face off, took a feed from Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahoe) and scored.
The two teams traded goals in the third period. Somerville made it 6-2 with 7:06 left, before Anthony Bottoms pulled the Ravens back within three. After Elliott converted a man up for the Blazers, Stephen Licata scored with 1:14 left to make it 7-4 heading into the fourth.
Ibezim, who scored three times in the fourth, pulled Rosemont within 7-5 with 14:29 remaining. Villegas finished off his hat trick with 12:29 left and Somerville made it a four-goal difference, 9-5, with 10:53 to go.
The score held until Zach Bowe started the comeback with 6:21 on the game clock. Licata tied the score with 1:12 left and the teams appeared headed for overtime. A late penalty on the Blazers created a man up for the Ravens. Licata fed Ibezim for the game-winning score with a man advantage with two seconds left.
In addition to Ibezim's four-goal outing, Licata had three goals and two assists for five points. Zach Bowe scored once, assisted on two others, went 12-of-19 on face offs and had 13 ground balls.
Hood will look to get into the win colum on Feb. 24 when Immaculata visits Thomas Athletic Field.
