Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - A six-goal run in the second half propelled the Hood College men's lacrosse team to a 10-6 victory in its home opener against Immaculata.
Eight different players combined for the Blazers' 10 goals. Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahoe) and Eddie Somerville (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) had two goals apiece. Nick Druelinger (Joppa, Md. / John Carroll), Keller Falkenstein (Middletown, Md. / Middletown), Alex Villegas (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key), Zachary Kooser (Ferndale, Md. / Archbishop Spalding), Grayson Zubradt (Elmhurst, Ill. / York Community) and Jack Zuckerberg (Silver Spring, Md. / John F. Kennedy) each scored once. Alexander Elliott (Cornelius, N.C. / West Orange), Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley), Villegas and Zubradt all had assists.
John Hoffman (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) stopped seven shots in goal. Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) won 13-of-19 face offs and had six ground balls. Tucker Palmer (Phoenixville, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts) had six groundballs. Weston Bimstefer (Ellicott City, Md. / River Hill) and Falkenstein each caused three turnovers.
Hood trailed 5-4 after the Mighty Macs' Brendan Doyle scored with two minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The Blazers reclaimed the lead by the end of the period with a pair of quick goals. Falkenstein forced a turnover, picked up the ground ball and scored to tie the contest with 23 seconds left. Hood won the face off and Somerville found the back of the net just 10 seconds later to make it 6-5.
Four straight Hood goals to open the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.
The Blazers led 2-1 after the first quarter behind scores by Foster and Villegas, but the Mighty Macs used a three-goal second period to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.
Brian Shultis had two goals and an assist to lead Immaculata. Tyler Black also scored twice. Christian Custodio made 16 saves and had four ground balls.
The Blazers travel to Shenandoah for a non-conference contest on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
