Hood Wins Third Straight, Defeats Neumann 19-6

Box Score

ASTON, Md. - A Hood College record 20 face off wins by Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) opened the door for five Blazers to record hat tricks in a 19-6 win at Neumann.

Kauffman broke the old record of 19 face off wins, held by Randolph Clark. Kauffman finished with 15 ground balls, the most for a Blazer since 2007.

Grayson Zubradt (Elmhurst, Ill. / York Community), Zachary Kooser (Ferndale, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) and Eddie Somerville (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) each had three goals and an assist in the game. Patrick O'Brien (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley) and Kyle Bosley (Baltimore, Md. / Dundalk) also recorded three goals on the afternoon.

Two of O'Brien's goals came on man up situations, one shy of the single game record. Zubradt notched his third straight game of at least three goals. For Bosley, it was his first career three-goal game.

John Hoffman (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) continued his strong play in net, with 15 saves and 10 ground balls. Keller Falkenstein (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) caused three turnovers.

The win was the third straight for the Blazers, who improved to 4-3. It marks the longest win streak for Hood since the 2010 season.

Zubradt scored the day's first two goals and Sean Murphy (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) made it 3-0 off an assist from Jack Zuckerberg (Silver Spring, Md. / John F. Kennedy) with six minutes and 18 seconds left in the first quarter. After Neumann got on the board, Kooser scored with a man down with just three seconds left for a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of play.

Kooser's man down score opened the floodgates for the Blazers, who went on a 12-0 run that extended until midway through the third quarter.

Hood, who led 10-1 at the half, went ahead 15-1 after O'Brien scored his last goal of the day with 7:03 on the clock in the third period.

Neumann closed the period with three straight scores before the Blazers scored four in a row to open the fourth period. All three of Bosley's goals came during the run that made it 19-4 with 2:13 to play.

Jeremy Pierson scored twice to lead the Knights. Antonio Gibson had 25 saves and 14 ground balls.

Hood is idle for 10 days before hosting Stevenson to open Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play on Mar. 26.
