Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team could not overcome a second quarter run by Lycoming as the Blazers fell on Senior Day, 16-10.
Hood honored seniors Jared Bileski (Waterloo, Ontario / Rockaway Mennonite Regional), Tai Foster (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahoe), Tucker Palmer (Phoenixville, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts) and Jack Zuckerberg (Silver Spring, Md. / John F. Kennedy) during a pre-game ceremony.
While the Blazers did not come away with the win, underclassmen set a pair of records to show the outgoing class they are leaving the program in good hands.
Grayson Zubradt (Elmhurst, Ill. / York Community) scored four goals to set Hood's single season record and become the first player in Blazer history with a 30-goal season. He eclipsed Kris Miner's record of 26 goals from 2011.
Zach Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) won a school record 23 face offs, setting individual and team single game records in the process. He had 13 ground balls.
Eddie Somerville (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) scored two goals and had six ground balls. Alex Villegas (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) added two goals and an assist. John Hoffman (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) made nine saves and Eamon Mulligan (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) forced two turnovers.
Zubradt's record-setting score put Hood ahead 1-0 with 11 minutes, 59 seconds left in the first quarter. After back-to-back goals by Lycoming, Nick Druelinger (Joppa, Md. / John Carroll) took an assist from Alexander Elliott (Cornelius, N.C. / West Orange) to tie the game with 6:34 left in the quarter.
The Warriors went on a 7-0 run, including 5-0 in the second quarter, to take a 9-2 lead into halftime.
Hood came out and scored three in a row, one by Somerville and two by Zubradt, to make it 9-5 with 8:39 to go in the third quarter. Two straight goals from Lycoming ended the surge and the Blazers could not get closer than five the rest of the way.
Sean Reilly had 10 points in the game with five goals and five assists. Tim Breau added four goals and two assists. Joshua Tscheulin made eight saves in the first half. Michael Tenant and Will McAndrew saw action in net during the second half, with Tenant stopping six shots.
Hood had a 39-29 advantage in ground balls behind a 23-of-30 mark on faceoffs; and outshot the Warriors 45-34.
The Blazers travel to Alvernia on Apr. 23.
