How it Happened

  • In the early going, the Blazers had trouble with the Presidents' duo of Kyle Heinig and Devon Curran. The duo combined to do all of the first half scoring for Washington & Jefferson, who jumped ahead 6-4 with 5:46 left in the second quarter.
  • Hood rallied to tie the game before the end of the half. Elliott scored with 4:59 to go and Tristan Moreno tied it up with the help of Zubradt with 1:44 remaining.
  • The two goals started a 10-1 run that spanned nearly 27 minutes of action. The Blazers' defense tightened in the second half, pitching a shutout in the third quarter. Sean Murphy opened the second half scoring with the go-ahead goal from an assist by Kooser with 12:46 to go in the third. Goals by Somerville, Elliott and Zubradt followed to make it 10-6 heading into the fourth.
  • Alex Villegas scored an extra-man goal with 14:37 left in the game for a five-goal lead. Heinig scored to give W&J its first goal in nearly 25 minutes at 11:55 to cut Hood's lead to four. Zubradt scored twice in the next 45 seconds, however, as the Blazers' lead ballooned to seven, 14-7, after Somerville scored with 8:09 to go.
  • Kauffman iced the game after winning his final face off of the day. He picked up the ground ball and finished with just five seconds to go for the final tally.
