Women’s basketball defeated at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball team fell at Lebanon Valley in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 
 
Inside the Box Score   
  • Marlise Newson led the Blazers with 19 points and handed out four assists. 
  • Philippa Clouse finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. This was the junior's first career double- double. 
How it Happened   
  • Neither team gained an edge in the first quarter, as the lead changed five times in the opening period. A pair of free throws by Lebanon Valley's Jaime Youngkin gave the Dutchmen a one-point lead to head into the second quarter, 16-15. Clouse led the Blazers with six points in the period. 
  • The Dutchmen opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run that made it 24-17 with 7:20 remaining. Both teams continued to trade baskets for the next seven minutes. Free throws by LVC's Daelyn Stabler at the 2:11 mark, pushed the Dutchmen's lead to 11 points,35-24. With 1:47 left in the first half, Newson converted an and-one that cut the deficit to eight points before LVC extended the lead to 13 points at halftime, 40-27. The Dutchmen did not commit a single turnover in the first half, with the Blazers giving the ball away only four times. 
  • The third quarter proved too much for the Blazers to overcome as the Dutchmen outscored the Blazers 19-8. The Dutchmen's 13-point halftime lead surged into a 24-point LVC advantage to end the period. 
  • Lebanon Valley's lead did not fall below 22 the rest of the way. 
Analysis   
  • Lebanon Valley edged Hood 20-18 in points in the paint and 9-7 in second chance points. 
  • The teams were even in rebounds, 46-46. 
  • The Dutchmen had seven steals on Hood's 16 turnovers, resulting in an 18-6 advantage in points off turnovers.  
For the opponent   
  • Kate Fitzpatrick led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting. The first- year went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. 
  • Kennedy Kuffa grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
