DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team fell 11-10 in a close battle with Delaware Valley University in the cross-conference matchup on Saturday.
Inside the Numbers
- Kyle Scott (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored a team-high three goals against the Aggies.
- Rio Muldoon (Prince Frederick, MD/DeMatha Catholic) added four points for the attack with two goals and two assists. Robbie Wiley (York, PA/Central York) also netted two goals.
- Jackson Hand (Orangeville, ON/Orangeville District Secondary), Colby Gallagher (Coatesville, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and Owen McDermott (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) all scored once.
- Garrett Hitchens (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) went 15-22 in the faceoff circle and picked up a team-high eight ground balls.
- Sammy Patnaik (Fairfax, VA/Robinson Secondary) and Evan Hayek (New Market, MD/Oakdale) both caused two turnovers for the Blazer defense.
- Jacob Smidt (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll) recorded seven saves and played 44:29 minutes then Alex Dudziak (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) added three saves in 15:31 minutes.
How It Happened
- Delaware Valley's Lucien St. Ongie scored the games first goal with 12:40 on the clock to take the early 1-0 lead over the Blazers.
- Muldoon tied the game at one each when he netted his first of the day with 7:46 remaining in the first quarter.
- In a 13 second span, the Aggies's Brett Ziegler scored a man-up goal off an assist from Tony Aguago then McDermott found the back of the net for a man-down goal off a pass from Muldoon to keep the game tied at two with 5:40 remaining.
- Delaware Valley scored the next three goals to end the first with strikes from Ziegler, St. Onge and Christopher Marren to extend the lead to 5-2 going into the second.
- Hood opened the second quarter with a two-goal run. Muldoon's started the run with his second of the day off a pass from Jay Lanigan (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) with 14:22 left then Scott scored an unassisted tally to bring the Aggie lead within one 5-4 with 8:28 left in the first half.
- Tre Williams extended the Aggie lead to two with 6:52 remaining. Hood answered the Williams strike with two Wiley goals that tied the game at six going into the second half.
- Four goals were scored in the third, two from each team. Delaware Valley scored the first two from Brandon Keller and Ziegler to take the 6-8 lead, but Hood tied the game once again with goals from Scott and Hand going into the final quarter.
- The Aggies scored first in the fourth with a Ben Napieralski strike but the Blazers answered back quickly as Scott completed the hat trick to tie the game back at nine each with 11:15 left on the clock.
- Williams scored his second of the day off a Ziegler pass to give the Aggies the 10-9 advantage with 10:14 remaining, but the Blazers answered back with a Gallagher goal off a Muldoon pass to tie the game for the sixth time of the game at 10 each with 7:13 left in the game.
- Delaware Valley secured the 11-10 victory when Napieralski finished a shot off a Ziegler pass with two minutes remaining in the game.
For the Opponent
- Ziegler led the Aggies' attack with five points on three goals and two assists. Zielger also picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover.
- Williams, St. Onge and Napieralski all added two goals each while Marren and Keller scored once each.
- Michael Florig and Nick Matthew both picked up five ground balls. Matthew also went 8-23 in the faceoff circle.
- Luke Kelchner and Florig caused a team-high three turnovers for the Delaware Valley defense.
- Jim Murphy recorded 13 saves against the Blazers in all 60 minutes of play.
Analysis
- Hood outshot Delaware Valley 37-36.
- Delaware Valley successfully cleared the ball 21-out-of-24 times while Hood went 17-22 in successful clears.
- Hood earned the edge in the ground ball battle 32-28.
