READING, Pa. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team earned their first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth victory with a 10-5 win over the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
Inside the Numbers
- Robbie Wiley and Rio Muldoon led the Blazers with four points each. Wiley recorded three goals and one assist while Muldoon scored one goal and tallied three assists. Muldoon also caused three turnovers.
- Owen McDermott added two goals while five played scored one goal each.
- Sammy Patnaik and Kadin Saleh both added two caused turnovers on defense.
- Garrett Hitchens went 11-13 in the faceoff circle and picked up seven ground balls.
- Alex Dudziak made nine saves, recorded five ground balls and played in 59:25 minutes. Sebastien Seymour also recorded a save in goal.
How It Happened
- The Blazers started the game with a 5-0 run over the first two quarters. In the first quarter, Wiley scored the first goal of the game with 6:25 on the clock on a man-up opportunity. Colby Gallagher scored off a Muldoon assist with 5:59 remaining to take the 2-0 lead going into the second quarter.
- Aden Sievert, Muldoon, McDermott and all netted unassisted tallies in the second quarter for the Blazers to push the score to 5-0 with 8:11 remaining.
- Alvernia's Kenneth Howley ended the scoring drought with an unassisted goal with 7:16 on the clock to being the score to 5-1.
- Hood answered Alvernia's goal with two more before the halftime break. Kyle Scott found the back of the net off a Muldoon pass then Wiley scored his second of the day to extend the Blazer lead 7-1 going into the second half.
- McDermott and Hand scored the only goals in the third quarter. McDermott scored his second of the day on a man-up opportunity off a Wiley assist with 7:17 on the clock. Jackson Hand got his name in the scoring column when he netted an unassisted goal with 5:27 left in the third.
- To open the fourth quarter, Alvernia scored two goals coming from Keith Lake and Cade Campbell with 4:32 left to bring the score to 9-3.
- Wiley secured his hat trick and rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with a strike off a Muldoon pass with 2:41 on the clock to extend the lead to 10-3.
- The Golden Wolves scored the final two goals of the game both scored by Dylan Mercadante to make the final score 10-5 in favor of the Blazers.
For the Opponent
- Dylan Mercadante led the team with two goals and also caused one turnover.
- Keith Lake, Cade Campbell and Kenneth Howley all scored once for Alvernia.
- Ten players caused one turnover for the defense.
- Ryan Gilman went 5-18 in the faceoff circle and picked up four ground balls.
- Dane Sabarese recorded 16 saves and picked up a team-high seven ground ball in 45 minutes played. Jared Devine made six saves in 15 minutes for Alvernia.
