HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Hood College set its 18- and 36-hole team records and
Sam Driscoll (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) shot a two-day 148 for the individual 36-hole record as men's golf kicked off the spring at the Cardinal Spring Classic at Black Rock Golf Course, hosted by Catholic University.
Record Setters
- The Blazers broke 300 for the first time in school history with a 299 on the tournament's first day. Hood followed it up with a 306 in the second round, the third-best 18-holes in program history. The result was a two-day 605, demolishing the previous 36-hole team score by 26 strokes.
- Driscoll shot a 75 in the first round, then cut two strokes for a 73 in the final round for a 148. The graduate student eclipsed Andy Baker '17's conference championship winning 154 from 2017.
On the Scorecards
- Driscoll, who tied for 12th, was not alone in breaking the old Hood record. Teammates Tanner Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur), Will Kujawa (Fredericksburg, Md./Massaponax) and Brady Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) also shot lower than Baker's 154.
- Tanner Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) shaved three strokes off his opening round for a 74 on day two and a 151 total (t-22nd).
- Kujawa and Brady Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) used personal bests on day one to finish with matching 36-hole scores of 153 (t-29th).. Kujawa's 73 tied him with Driscoll's second round for the sixth-best 18 holes in program history. Leonard's 74 on the first day equaled his brother's day two and tied for eighth in the Blazer records.
- Patrick Gogarty (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) rounded out Hood's lineup with a 36-hole 170.
Leaderboards
- Two Washington & Jefferson golfers tied for the individual victory. Cade Patterson and Colin Robinson turned in 36-hole scores of 140.
- The Presidents shot 283 and 289 to win the tournament with a 572.
