NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The Hood College men's golf team battled the weather to shoot a 317 on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships at Keene Trace.
The Weather
- Multiple lightning delays lengthened the day to approximately 11 hours.
On the Scorecards
- After the weather cleared and play resumed, Will Kujawa (Fredericksburg, Md./Massaponax) had the highlight of the day for the Blazers on the par-4, 427-yard fifth hole. The senior sank a 7-iron from approximately 165 yards for eagle. It was one of just 13 eagles in the first round.
- Kujawa and Tanner Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) led Hood with rounds of 78 and are tied for 130th. Leonard turned in a steady round with pars on 12 of the 18 holes.
- Brady Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) was one stroke back in a 145th-place tie. The junior birdied the par-5, 523-yard 17th hole.
- Sam Driscoll's (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) round of 82 featured a birdie on the par-4, 275-yard ninth hole.
- Patrick Gogarty (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) shot a 92 but picked up an impressive birdie on the eighth hole. He ended up with an unplayable lie in a water-filled bunker just short of the green on the par-5, 543-yard hole. The junior was given a drop in a drier portion of the sand trap and chipped to within feet of the cup, then sank the put for four.

- Hood's 317 is tied for 36th.
- St. John's (Minn.) is the day one team leader after four-player score of 284.
- Illinois Wesleyan's Bobby Beaubien and Emory's Brian Hanson are tied for the first-round lead after shooting 67s.
About the Course
- Hood played its first round on the Keene Trace's Keene Run course. The field was split between two locations with half the teams playing on Keene Run and Keene Trace's other course Champion Trace. Keene Run played as a par-72, 6,701-yard course.
